I’m not sure I’ve recommended a children’s book more than this one. The first time I read this book, I was smiling from ear to ear. I’ll never forget when I introduced this book to my friend’s kids. They loved the rhymes and beautiful pictures. They asked if I would read it again! We had a wonderful discussion afterwards on the lessons learned from Tootsie Turtle and Dobbie Doo. Highly recommend this book!!

I will use this book with my class during the first week of school from now on. In my eight years as an elementary teacher, I have always struggled to give a blanket explanation for what tattling is. This book provides an anchor text for an in-depth discussion on when it is appropriate to tell an adult, versus when it is appropriate to work out your issues among peers. This worked WONDERS with my third-grade class who were returning after two years of online learning last year. It seemed like every other conversation those first few months were with students telling on each other for little things. After reading this book, and pairing it with a class discussion, I saw students begin to learn how to work things out among themselves before coming to me with complaints. They were so enthusiastic, they even wrote letters that week to thank author Debbie Schrick and ask if there would be a movie made! It's no wonder Schrick has been a teacher herself and knows how to explain this issue in a fun and rhythmic way. The illustrations are gorgeous, the characters are vivid and so silly, and my class paid attention the entire time. Teachers, do yourself a favor, save yourself many headaches, and just get the book for your class!
